W e’ll start with two adjectives: flexible and converged.

To explain, I’m going to take you back to a time before Commvault was a company, when virtualization of servers didn’t exist and life was much simpler—a time when you played with LEGOs. Why do kids and parents alike love LEGOs?

Maybe because LEGOs:

  • Fit together easily and intuitively
  • Come with instructions for building a specific design OR
  • Can be used to creatively build your own custom creation
  • Provide basic products for young children up to complex engineering kits for adults

According to Forbes, the LEGO brand is worth $7.9 billion, the 76th most valuable brand in the world, so clearly the LEGOs concept works for a lot of people. That’s the reason Quantum developed a LEGO-like concept for backup storage behind Commvault.

We understand the challenges for Commvault users to configure servers to direct traffic, media agent servers to move data, and disk storage to house the backup data. All of these pieces can come from different vendors, creating complexities for sourcing, support, and service.

We also understand that hyperconverged solutions are a hot topic in the marketplace because they integrate compute, storage, and networking all in one appliance. While hyperconvergence is initially easy to implement and works well in some situations, these products can leave you trapped into buying incremental compute when you may just need additional storage, and vice versa.

In January 2017, Quantum launched SureStaQ™ for Commvault, which provides CommServe, MediaAgent, and backup storage in one reference architecture with one easy part number—all sized based on Commvault’s software (small, medium, large, XL, extended mode L & XL).

Quantum SureStaQ gives you the flexibility to buy a converged solution “as is” off the shelf, just like your favorite LEGO set—or to customize based on your environment right out of the gate. You can also add your own extra storage bricks later down the road. And unlike LEGOs, which have increased in price since we were kids, Quantum SureStaQ drives cost efficiency with storage under $200/TB.

Visit us at Commvault GO November 6–8 to learn more about SureStaQ and add a few LEGO bricks to our LEGO creation in the Quantum booth.
