There are lots of exciting things happening in the market. With our joint solution set with Veeam—here are some of my top takeaways from the show:

Ransomware is making people reconsider tape.[/mk_fancy_title]I spoke with multiple people throughout the week who asked about our new tape solution for Veeam, and most of the time it was in the context of ransomware protection. “We were moving away from tape, but the events of last month have made us reconsider,” said one enterprise Quantum/Veeam customer. I think the WannaCry virus really seems to have gotten people’s attention, as we wrote about last week.
There is no more effective protection against ransomware than an “air-gapped” backup copy stored on LTO tape, as I discussed with Dave Vellante and Stu Miniman in my interview on theCUBE.
And with our recently announced Scalar® iBlade™ for Veeam, we make tape creation easier than ever, eliminating the physical tape server requirements and enabling customers to create tape using our “converged tape appliance” for Veeam.

The transition to flash, hyperconvergence, and the cloud won’t happen overnight.[/mk_fancy_title]Yes, there are plenty of vendors offering these emerging technologies. Yes, they are growing. But every time I’m at one of these shows, I’m struck by the realities, or practicalities, that our customers face as they look at adopting these new technologies. There are risks and unknowns—and as customers make the transition over time, they’ll need to continue to invest in a more traditional, “converged” stack for applications and storage. I think Quantum and Veeam’s joint direction is right on target here.

The approach we’ve taken to integrate DXi® with Veeam Data Mover is unique.[/mk_fancy_title]Not only is it unique in the deduplication industry, but as customers and partners understand the value it can deliver for an inline deduplication appliance, it’s clear that Quantum DXi has an edge for deduplication in Veeam environments.

Don’t stay out on Bourbon Street past 4am.[/mk_fancy_title]This one is self-explanatory, but some lessons just have to be learned.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text][/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
